Pharmacy Rx Solutions—a trusted supplier of HCG injections—has the answers you need.

What Is HCG?

Before delving into Dr. Simeons’ background, it may be helpful to understand exactly what HCG is. HCG is short for human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone that’s excreted by a pregnant woman’s placenta. HCG helps sustain the woman and her fetus between meals—when they’re hungry, the woman’s placenta will excrete HCG, which will in turn trigger stored fat to be released for their nourishment.

Who Was Dr. Simeons?

So, who exactly was Dr. Simeons, and what does he have to do with HCG? Dr. Albert T. W. Simeons was a British endocrinologist who was credited with discovering a treatment for malaria and helping to control the bubonic plague as well as leprosy.

In 1931, Dr. Simeons moved to India, where he practiced medicine and worked to eradicate malaria. While he was there, he noticed that pregnant women were giving birth to normal-sized babies despite being underweight and undernourished themselves. This discovery prompted Dr. Simeons to begin studying the role that HCG could potentially play in weight loss.

In 1954, Dr. Simeons published his findings in a manuscript entitled, “Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity.” He explained that when combined with a certain low-calorie diet—which he described in the manuscript—taking HCG could lead to significant weight loss.

What Did Dr. Simeons’ HCG Diet Protocol Involve?

As was outlined in his manuscript, Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol required consuming no more than 500 calories per day. No solid foods were allowed during breakfast, which was limited to only tea or coffee without sugar (although one tablespoon of milk could be used each day). Lunch and dinner would each consist of:

  • 100 grams of protein—for example, chicken breast, beef, or fresh white fish—either boiled or grilled, with all visible fat removed prior to cooking and with no additional fat used during cooking
  • One of the following vegetables: asparagus, beet greens, cabbage, celery, chard, chicory, cucumbers, fennel, green salad, onions, red radishes, spinach, tomatoes
  • One breadstick or Melba toast
  • One of the following fruits: half of an orange; half of a grapefruit, an apple, or a handful of strawberries

Dr. Simeons also recommended that followers of his diet protocol drink approximately two liters of water, mineral water, tea, or coffee each day.
