HCG Diet Food List

HCG Diet Food ListThe HCG diet is a popular method of shedding unwanted pounds that has helped thousands achieve their weight loss goals. The plan is comprised of two parts: reoccurring injections of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) coupled with a 500-calorie-a-day diet. HCG is a hormone produced mostly in women during pregnancy and is administered to help curb the unwanted side effects of a low-calorie diet such as low energy levels, nausea, and lightheadedness. But what about the diet itself? What are you allowed to eat as you progress through the plan? You may be surprised to learn the HCG diet food list is more varied than many assume. Let’s explore the options.

Options for Each Phase

The HCG diet is divided into four phases. During the first, which lasts two days, the list of foods allowed is expansive. That’s because this initial stage is all about storing enough fat to trigger the hypothalamus to release hormones needed for weight loss. Big, juicy cheeseburgers, pizza, loaded baked potatoes, decadent desserts, they’re all on the list!

Phase two, lasting from 26 to 40 days, is when the real weight loss occurs. You’ll be restricted to the above-mentioned caloric intake. But limited calories doesn’t mean limited choices. Food options include:

  • Vegetables – In a word—lots. Any kind of lettuce, spinach, beet greens, cabbage, onions, and tomatoes is permissible. You can also eat fennel, cucumbers, radishes, celery, and asparagus.
  • Proteins – White fish, lobster, crab, shrimp, extra-lean beef, and chicken are allowed. The meat and poultry can’t be cooked on the bone, and all skin and fat must be removed.
  • Fruit – Apples, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and lemons all make the list.

Phase three is a three-week process of slowly reintroducing foods not permitted in phase two. New options that make the list include avocado, tuna, nuts, and almond butter.

Once this stage is completed, the transition to phase four is over. The food restrictions on the maintenance phase amount to limit sugars and unhealthy fats. Avoiding processed foods will go far in accomplishing these goals.
