  • Miscellaneous – During this phase, you’ll also be able to eat a wide variety of spices, including nearly all of the most common ones such as garlic, sage, thyme, and rosemary. You’ll also be able to use pre-mixed seasonings for chicken, steak, and seafood as long as they do not contain sugar.

Phase Three

Also known as the “Stabilization Phase” this three-week period is when caloric restrictions are first eased and food reintroduced into the diet, although sugar and starches are still avoided. That means bread, potatoes, pasta, pastries, and sugary drinks continue to be no-nos. The calorie count is upped to 1,500 per day, and foods like tuna, turkey, and pork can be reintroduced in limited quantities. The goal during this phase is to keep your weight within 2 pounds of your goal.

Phase Four

The maintenance phase is focused primarily on adding healthy starches back into your diet. That doesn’t mean going back to old eating habits. There will always be certain foods that should be avoided indefinitely. These include highly processed items (basically, anything that’s commonly referred to as “junk food”), white flour, white rice, and whole milk products such as ice cream, buttermilk, heavy cream, etc.
